Athens (Greece), 23 July (LaPresse/AP) – A fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon near Corinth, in the Feneos area, forcing Greek authorities to order the evacuation of several villages. Firefighters report that over 180 firefighters, 15 planes and 12 helicopters have been deployed to fight the flames in a pine forest in the mountains near Corinth. There are no reports of casualties. Weather conditions are particularly difficult for firefighters, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees in many parts of the country. Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, a fire brigade helicopter crashed into the sea and sank while attempting to collect water to extinguish another fire near Athens. The three crew members were rescued and taken to hospital.
