Milan, 22 July (LaPresse) – The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have confirmed that yesterday troops entered a building used as accommodation for World Health Organisation (WHO) staff in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, and claim to have arrested several staff members suspected of terrorism. According to the army, yesterday's incident at the WHO facility began after troops spotted shots fired at them and returned fire. As part of the offensive, troops arrested “several individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities”. ‘After field interrogation, most were released and evacuated from the area in coordination with international organisations,’ the IDF said, adding that ‘suspects are treated in accordance with international law’ even if ‘at times, during field interrogations, it is necessary for individuals suspected of terrorist activity to temporarily remove parts of their clothing to ensure that they are not concealing explosive belts or other weapons.’ This was reported by The Times of Israel.
