New York (New York, USA), 18 July (LaPresse/AP) – In May 2026, CBS will close Stephen Colbert's programme, “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, which was once hosted by David Letterman. The announcement was made by the host himself during a recording, two days after Colbert criticised CBS Global for reaching an agreement with President Donald Trump regarding a “60 Minutes” report. ‘I'm offended,’ the comedian said in his monologue on Monday evening, "I don't know if anything, anything at all, can restore my trust in this company. But, just guessing here, I'd say $16 million might help.‘ The technical term used in legal circles to describe the agreement is ’payoff," he added. The cancellation of the programme was also announced in a press release issued by CBS with a link to a video of Colbert's announcement on Instagram.
