Milan, 14 July (LaPresse) – Elyazid A., a 20-year-old prisoner, escaped from the Corbas remand centre near Lyon on Friday morning, 11 July, and was arrested this morning at around 6 a.m., according to French broadcaster Bfmtv. He was caught as he was leaving a cellar in Sathonay-Camp, a town in the Rhône region. The fugitive was arrested on charges of “escape in association with a criminal organisation and participation in a criminal organisation”. Since yesterday, the man had been the subject of an Interpol arrest warrant. Born in 2004 in Mamoudzou, Mayotte, Elyazid A. was serving several prison sentences for murder committed as part of an organised gang and for violating weapons regulations. He escaped from prison by hiding in a large laundry bag belonging to a cellmate. His escape was only noticed 24 hours later by prison staff, a delay that some attribute to overcrowding in the prison.
