Brussels, 10 July (LaPresse) – "I have listened to our companies, which still clearly need certainty, predictability and transatlantic trade, and that is why our priority is to stabilise the situation with the United States. The United States is our most important trading and investment partner, accounting for 20% of all our exports, which is worth about 3% of our GDP, and millions of jobs on both sides of the Atlantic depend on them. So this was a key point that I emphasised in my recent phone call with President Trump, and it is crucial for the negotiations." This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her speech at the 7th Franco-Italian Confindustria-MEFED Forum in Rome.We have not stopped seeking an initial effort with the United States to keep tariffs as low as possible and to provide the stability that companies need, because we believe that tariffs are a loss for everyone, they attack industry and people, but we are not naive either," she added.
