Brussels, 9 July (LaPresse) – "Since February, the United States has imposed tariffs on 70% of total EU trade with the United States. The scope and scale of these measures are unprecedented. Our line has been clear. We will stand firm. But we prefer a negotiated solution. That is why we are working closely with the US administration to reach an agreement. And I had a productive exchange of views with President Trump earlier this week to help move things forward. We are looking for a clear framework from which we can continue to build.‘ This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her speech to the European Parliament plenary on the conclusions of the European Council on 26 June. ’So the message is clear. We stand by our principles. We defend our interests. We continue to work in good faith. And we prepare for all scenarios," she emphasised.
