Brussels, July 7 (LaPresse) – “What we just heard from Mr. Piperea was clear to everyone. It comes straight from the oldest playbook of extremists: polarizing society and eroding trust in democracy through false claims about electoral interference; attempting to rewrite the story of how Europe successfully overcame a global pandemic together—from vaccines to NextGenEU; inventing debunked conspiracies about text messages. This is a choice.”
So said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the plenary debate on the no-confidence motion against her.
“We can follow Mr. Piperea into his world of conspiracies and alleged dark plots from what he calls ‘Brussels’—or we can clearly state what this really is: another crude attempt to sow division between our institutions, between the pro-European, pro-democracy forces of this chamber. We must never allow that to happen, and we never will,” she emphasized.
