Milan, 5 July (LaPresse) – ‘The changes that Hamas is seeking to make to the Qatari proposal were delivered to us last night and are not acceptable to Israel.’ This was stated in a note from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as reported by The Times of Israel. The statement specifies that the Israeli negotiating team will travel to Qatar tomorrow for talks on the release of hostages still in Gaza. According to a source involved in the mediation efforts, Hamas wants three fundamental changes to the ceasefire proposal: it wants the agreement to stipulate that talks for a permanent ceasefire will continue until an agreement is reached; that aid will be fully resumed through mechanisms supported by the United Nations and other international humanitarian organisations; and that the Israeli army (IDF) will withdraw to the positions it held before the previous ceasefire was violated in March.
