Frankfurt (Germany), 3 Jul (LaPresse) – The German government is currently working hard on an emergency solution to provide Ukraine with sufficient new defence systems and missiles. Bild reports this, citing government sources. Berlin is currently awaiting a commitment from US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth for two Patriot air defence systems, which Germany would finance for Ukraine. The request was reportedly submitted to the US Defence Secretary several weeks ago. Kiev had already tried unsuccessfully to acquire Patriot systems from the US, only to turn to the German government. At the moment, it is unclear what the agreement with Berlin means for the blocking of deliveries of certain US armaments to Ukraine. Germany fears that the US may also reject the German request for two Patriot systems. According to Bild, the loss of arms supplies was also discussed during Wednesday's cabinet meeting. It became clear that the weapons lost by the US could not be compensated. Nevertheless, Germany and other allies now intend to try to supply at least the Patriot systems to Ukraine from their own stocks.
