Jakarta (Indonesia), July 3 (LaPresse) – A ferry sank near the Indonesian tourist island of Bali, and according to the Surabaya Search and Rescue Agency, four people died and 23 were rescued, while 38 remain missing at sea. The KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya sank about half an hour after leaving Ketapang port in East Java province late Wednesday evening, according to a statement from the National Search and Rescue Agency. The ferry was headed to Gilimanuk port in Bali, about 50 kilometers away. On board were 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles, including 14 trucks. Many survivors were initially unconscious after drifting for hours in rough waters, said Banyuwangi police chief Rama Samtama Putra. Nine boats, including two tugboats and two rubber dinghies, searched for the missing, battling waves up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) high in the darkness of night.
