Frankfurt (Germany), July 3 (LaPresse) – After the second meeting of the coalition committee, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed satisfaction with the state of the government coalition between CDU-CSU and SPD. "Contrary to what some think, write, and say: we are really working well together in this coalition," he said during a meeting of cooperative and popular banks in Berlin.

The discussions, which lasted over five hours, between coalition leaders took place Wednesday evening in a "very positive atmosphere," Merz assured, emphasizing that "we have been in office for eight weeks and intend to continue doing so for much longer, and above all, well." Merz stated that "some things" had been decided within the coalition committee. However, he did not address concrete results either in his speech or in the subsequent roundtable.

Conservative and social democratic leaders decided not to extend the planned electricity tax cut to private consumers and all companies due to lack of funds. The extension of maternity pension is, however, scheduled for January 1, 2027, one year earlier than initially planned.
