UN, Guterres: ‘Agenda 2030 in danger, over 4 trillion needed per year’

Madrid (Spain), 30 June (LaPresse) – ‘Financing is the engine of development. And right now, that engine is drowning,’ "The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, our global promise to transform our world for a better and more just future, is in danger. Two-thirds of the sustainable development goals are behind schedule. To achieve them, an investment of over $4 trillion a year is needed.‘ This was stated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the opening session of the Fourth United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville. ’This is not just a crisis of numbers. It is a crisis of people. Of families going hungry. Of children not receiving vaccinations. Of girls being forced to drop out of school,‘ Guterres continued. ’We are here in Seville to change course. To repair and restart the engine of development and accelerate investment to the extent and at the speed necessary. And to restore a degree of equity and justice for all."
