Frankfurt (Germany), June 30 (LaPresse) – German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv today for his inaugural visit. In light of the ongoing massive Russian airstrikes, he pledged continued German military support to the country. "The freedom and future of Ukraine are the most important tasks of our foreign and security policy," Wadephul said. He added that Germany "will stand firmly by Ukraine so that it can continue to defend itself successfully, with modern air defense systems and other weapons, as well as humanitarian and economic aid."

"Ukraine will determine whether our Europe remains a place where freedom and human dignity matter, or a continent where violence redraws borders," Wadephul declared upon arrival. He stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want peace, but conquest and subjugation at any cost. "Therefore, we will continue to focus all our efforts on supporting Ukraine." This, he added, demonstrates "our resolve as Europeans."

According to the German Foreign Ministry, high-level talks between business representatives and Ukrainian decision-makers will be held today on the sidelines of the visit. Wadephul is also expected to meet with his counterpart, Andriy Sybiha, and will commemorate the victims of the mass murder of the Jewish population during the German occupation at the Babyn Yar memorial.
