Milan, June 30 (LaPresse) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday evening that trade talks with the United States have resumed after Canada withdrew its plan to tax U.S. tech companies. U.S. President Donald Trump had said on Friday that he was suspending trade talks with Canada because of its plan to keep the tax on tech companies, which he called “a direct and blatant attack on our country.” The Canadian government stated that “in anticipation” of a trade deal, “Canada would withdraw” the Digital Services Tax. The tax was set to take effect on Monday. Carney and Trump spoke by phone Sunday, and Carney’s office said they agreed to resume negotiations. “Today’s announcement will support the resumption of talks ahead of the July 21, 2025 deadline set at this month’s G7 leaders summit in Kananaskis,” Carney said in a statement.
