Milan, 27 June (LaPresse) – As part of an increasingly intense effort to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table, the Trump administration has discussed the possibility of helping Iran access up to $30 billion to build a civilian nuclear programme for energy production, easing sanctions and unfreezing billions of dollars of Iranian funds subject to restrictions. CNN reported this exclusively, citing four sources close to the matter. According to the sources, key US and Middle East players have been talking to the Iranians behind the scenes even during the barrage of military strikes in Iran and Israel over the past two weeks. The discussions continued this week after the ceasefire agreement was reached, the sources said. Trump administration officials emphasised that several proposals have been put forward. These are preliminary and evolving proposals, with one non-negotiable element: Iran's uranium enrichment must be reduced to zero, something Iran has always said it considers necessary. But at least one preliminary draft proposal, described to CNN by two sources, includes several incentives for Iran.
