Rome, June 23 (LaPresse) – French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking from Oslo where he is visiting, expressed opposition to regime change in Iran after US President Donald Trump raised the possibility. "I don’t believe we can replace a people to change their leaders," Macron said. The Élysée chief stated that the Israeli attack on Evin prison "endangered the lives of Iranian and foreign civilians" and "has nothing to do with the officially declared objectives." "The Iranian Foreign Minister was able to speak with our Foreign Minister and assured him that" the two French prisoners "were not harmed," Macron added, referring to Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris. Macron also said that France "shares the goal of preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons," but that there is "no legal framework" for the attacks carried out by the United States against Iran.
