Frankfurt (Germany), 22 June (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was informed by the White House of the US air strike against Iran shortly after 1 a.m., when the attack had already begun. This was reported by Bild, citing government sources. His foreign policy adviser, Günter Sautter, worked closely with allies and the Iranian embassy in Berlin throughout the night. After the security cabinet meeting held early this morning in Berlin, a meeting was scheduled between Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer – in the so-called “E-3 format” – to discuss the consequences of the US attacks for Europe.
