Rome, 18 June (LaPresse) – Skyrocketing drinking water prices and fuel shortages are leading to the complete collapse of Gaza's water system at a time when temperatures are reaching extreme levels. This is what ActionAid is reporting from the Gaza Strip, where water is now almost exhausted. The price of drinking water is 400% higher than pre-war levels, reaching $38 per thousand litres of clean water today. Alaa, ActionAid's emergency response manager in Gaza, said: "As temperatures rise, so does the risk of dehydration, epidemics and child malnutrition. Contaminated water sources and faulty sewage systems further increase the threats to health and survival." ActionAid, together with its local partners, is providing drinking water to the most vulnerable shelters and displaced persons by truck, distributing water tanks and basic purification systems.
