Rome, June 8 (LaPresse) – Tens of thousands of people gathered in Madrid for a demonstration organized by the Popular Party against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's government. The protest, held under the slogan "Mafia or Democracy," reportedly drew 100,000 participants according to organizers, and between 45,000 and 50,000 according to authorities, as reported by El País. "Surrender to democracy. Call elections," said Popular Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The most applauded figure was the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who declared, "Spain is not plurinational. We are not foreigners in our own country." This was the sixth rally promoted by the Popular Party during this legislature and the second largest. Sunday's event was called after a scandal involving leaked audio recordings of former PSOE member Leire Díez, who allegedly offered preferential treatment to businessmen and lawyers in exchange for compromising information on Civil Guard UCO officers investigating cases related to Sánchez's family.
