Bogotá (Colombia), 8 June (LaPresse) – Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a possible candidate in next year's presidential elections, was wounded by gunshots during an election rally in Bogotá, according to local authorities. His party, the conservative Democratic Centre, issued a statement describing the attack as “an unacceptable act of violence”. According to the party, the attack took place in a park in the Fontibon neighbourhood of the capital when armed assailants shot him in the back. Images circulating on social media show Uribe, 39, who is not related to the country's former president, covered in blood and being held by several people. A medical report from the Santa Fe Foundation hospital said the senator was admitted in critical condition and is undergoing ‘neurosurgery and peripheral vascular surgery.’ ‘Miguel is fighting for his life,’ his wife, María Claudia Tarazona, wrote on the senator's X account, urging Colombians to pray for him.
