Seoul (South Korea), 23 May (LaPresse) – North Korea has begun proceedings to arrest and investigate those responsible for the failed launch of its second destroyer. The news comes after leader Kim Jong Un expressed anger over the accident, which he described as caused by “criminal” negligence. North Korea had previously stated that the 5,000-tonne warship was damaged during a launch event on Wednesday. Satellite images of the site show the ship lying on its side, with most of the hull submerged and covered with tarpaulins. Pyongyang said today that investigations have found that the damage to the warship is not “serious”. North Korea's first destroyer was launched with great fanfare last month; it is North Korea's largest and most advanced warship to date, and Kim called its construction ‘a turning point’ in the modernisation of North Korea's naval forces to counter what he calls US-led security threats.
