Brussels, May 21 (LaPresse) – "The situation in Gaza is a catastrophe. The aid allowed in by Israel is merely a drop in the ocean. For over 80 days, Israel has blocked the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. This means that for 80 days, no food, medicine, or essential goods have entered the Gaza Strip. According to the United Nations, food supplies have been depleted and famine is imminent. Malnutrition has already caused the deaths of over 100 children, and another 70,000 are at risk due to treatable diseases and infections," said European Commissioner for Intergenerational Equity and Youth, Glenn Micallef, speaking on behalf of the Commission during the European Parliament plenary debate on Gaza.

"The European Union has consistently called for an end to the blockade, reminding that as the occupying power, Israel is obligated under international law to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need. On May 18, following intense international pressure, the Israeli government announced the resumption of some humanitarian aid, but the quantity of aid that has entered is insufficient and, according to our humanitarian partners, has not yet reached those in need. Aid must flow immediately, without obstruction, and in a manner that saves lives," he stressed.
