Madrid (Spain), May 20 (LaPresse) – The Spanish government has expressed openness to participating in a debate on excluding Israel from international sports competitions, as well as from the Eurovision Song Contest. “Russia did not take part in the last Olympic and Paralympic Games,” noted government spokesperson and Sports Minister Pilar Alegría. She emphasized that this decision “was made by the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, and the International Federations.”

“If the debate over Israel’s participation reaches the sports sphere, it will be up to the International Olympic Committee and the International Federations to decide, and of course, Spain, along with its partner and EU countries, will be ready to take part in that debate,” Alegría stated, adding that “there should be no double standards.” Yesterday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for Israel to be expelled from Eurovision, as was done with Russia.
