Washington (USA), 19 May (LaPresse) – Donald Trump has made it clear that a failure to negotiate ‘in good faith’ on the part of Vladimir Putin could lead to further sanctions against Russia. This was emphasised by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking on NBC's “Meet the Press” programme. Bessent suggested that the sanctions initiated during the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden were inadequate because they did not stop Russia's oil revenues, due to concerns that this would increase prices in the United States. The United States has sought to limit Russia's oil revenues while preserving the country's oil exports to limit the damage caused by war-induced inflation.
