St. Louis (Missouri, USA), 17 May (LaPresse/AP) – Severe storms sweeping across the Midwest of the United States have caused at least 16 deaths, including seven in Missouri and nine in south-eastern Kentucky due to a tornado. Kentucky authorities reported that the tornado also caused serious injuries when it swept through Laurel County late on Friday evening, causing buildings to collapse and even overturning a car on the I-75 motorway. ‘The search for survivors continues in the affected area,’ Sheriff John Root's office said in a statement posted on social media. An emergency shelter has been set up at a local high school, and donations of food and other essential supplies are arriving.
