Turkey, PKK disbands and announces end of armed struggle

Ankara (Turkey), 12 May (LaPresse/AP) – A Kurdish militant group has announced a historic decision to disband and lay down its arms as part of a new peace initiative with Turkey after four decades of armed conflict. The decision by the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, was announced by the Firat News Agency, which is close to the group. The news comes a few days after the party's congress in northern Iraq.
