Washington (USA), May 10 (LaPresse) – Donald Trump has revisited the taboo issue for Republicans of raising taxes on wealthier Americans. "I would really like to do it, frankly," the president responded to a journalist. "Something is being done at the highest level to help people with middle and low incomes save more. So, it's really about redistribution, and I'm willing to do it if they want it," Trump said, pointing to the members of Congress present at that moment in the Oval Office. "I would love to give people with lower incomes a great opportunity by giving up some of what I have," the president said, referring to himself and other wealthy taxpayers. However, Trump acknowledged the political risks involved, referencing the famous promise made by George H.W. Bush not to raise taxes, "read my lips," which was later broken. "But I actually think it's good policy to have wealthier people give up – and it's a very small thing, it's a point – to help people with lower incomes," he concluded.
