Washington (United States), May 7 (LaPresse) – U.S. President Donald Trump intends to announce during his trip to Saudi Arabia next week that the United States will officially adopt the term "Arabian Gulf" or "Gulf of Arabia" instead of "Persian Gulf." This was reported by two U.S. officials. The decision, which reflects pressure from Arab countries to change the geographical name of the body of water south of Iran, could escalate tensions with Tehran, which claims the historical name "Persian Gulf," in use since the 16th century. The White House has not issued any comment. For years, U.S. armed forces have used the term "Arabian Gulf" in their communications.
