Milan, May 5 (LaPresse) – Nearly complete electoral data shows that far-right nationalist George Simion has secured a decisive victory in the first round of Romania's presidential elections. The vote comes months after last year's annulled elections plunged the European Union and NATO member country into its worst political crisis in decades. Simion, leader of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), is far ahead of all other candidates with 40.5% of the vote, according to official electoral data after 99% of the ballots were counted. Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan is in second place with 20.89%, and third is the government coalition candidate, Crin Antonescu, with 20.34%, who has conceded defeat.
