Damascus (Syria), May 2 (LaPresse/AP) – The Israeli Air Force bombed the area near the presidential palace in Damascus, Syria's capital, in the early hours of today, after warning the Syrian authorities not to march towards villages inhabited by members of the Druze minority in the south of the country. The attack came after days of clashes between pro-government gunmen and Druze fighters near the capital, which left dozens dead and wounded. The Israeli army said in a statement that the fighters targeted an area adjacent to President Hussein al-Sharaa's palace in Damascus. Syrian pro-government media reported that the raid hit the area near the People's Palace on a hill overlooking the city.
