Milan, May 1 (LaPresse) – U.S. President Donald Trump will replace National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources close to the matter. The decision comes about a month after Waltz added a journalist to a Signal group chat where advisors were discussing a sensitive military operation involving airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen. This marks the first official to be removed during Trump’s second term in the White House. Waltz fell out of favor with the president and his top advisors after The Atlantic revealed that a journalist had been added to the group chat. The WSJ notes that while Trump initially refused to fire Waltz, he privately expressed frustration over what had become one of the administration’s first major embarrassments. According to sources cited by the paper, Waltz had planned to attend Trump’s “first 100 days” rally in Michigan on Tuesday, but the president told him not to come. Senior U.S. officials said Waltz had been sidelined during key policy discussions, particularly concerning talks with Iran over its nuclear program and efforts to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy in both negotiations, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were reportedly more influential in those deliberations.
