São Paulo (Brazil), May 1 (LaPresse/AP) – Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has left intensive care but remains hospitalized at DF Star Hospital in Brasília, according to his doctors. Bolsonaro recently underwent intestinal surgery. The medical team reported that he left the ICU on Wednesday, though no discharge date has been set. His condition is stable, and he has started a liquid diet. On April 13, Bolsonaro underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove intestinal adhesions and reconstruct the abdominal wall. It was his sixth operation related to the long-term effects of the abdominal stabbing he suffered during a campaign rally in September 2018. Since then, he has been hospitalized multiple times and underwent several surgeries during his presidency from 2019 to 2022. Doctors described the recent procedure as the "most complex" since the stabbing, requiring a "very delicate and prolonged postoperative period." On April 11, Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital in Santa Cruz, a small town in Rio Grande do Norte, with severe abdominal pain. He was later transferred to a hospital in the state capital, Natal, and then to Brasília at his family's request.
