Tariffs, Bessent quotes Kissinger: "Who do I call to speak with Europe?"

Washington (USA), April 29 (LaPresse) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent quoted Henry Kissinger’s famous question, “When I want to talk to Europe, who do I call?”, when asked about the state of trade negotiations between the United States and the European Union. “We are negotiating with many different interests.” The Europeans “have some internal issues to resolve before they can commit to external negotiations,” Bessent added. He cited as an example the digital service tax present in some countries but not in others. Some European countries, such as France and Italy, have imposed “an unfair digital service tax on major U.S. internet providers,” Bessent emphasized. “We want to see that unfair tax on one of America's great industries removed,” he added.
