Toronto (Canada), 29 Apr (LaPresse/AP) – ‘We have overcome the shock of the US betrayal, but we must never forget the lesson’. So said the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, in his victory speech in front of supporters in Ottawa after his Liberal Party won the federal election. In his speech, Carney emphasised the importance of Canadian unity in the face of threats from Washington and reiterated a conviction he had already expressed during the election campaign: the mutually beneficial system that Canada and the United States had shared since the end of World War II has come to an end. ‘As I have been saying for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. These are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to destroy us so he can own us. This will never, ever happen. But we must also recognise the reality: our world has changed dramatically,' Carney said.
