Srinagar (India), Apr 25 (LaPresse/AP) – The United Nations has urged India and Pakistan to exercise ‘utmost restraint’. The UN appeal comes at a time of heightened tension between New Delhi and Islamabad after gunmen killed 26 people near the tourist resort of Pahalgam in Kashmir on Tuesday. India immediately called the massacre a ‘terrorist attack’ and claimed it had ‘cross-border links’, accusing Pakistan of supporting it. Pakistan denied any connection with the attack, which was claimed by a previously unknown militant group calling itself Kashmir Resistance. The UN called on Pakistan and India ‘to exercise maximum restraint and ensure that the situation and developments we have witnessed do not deteriorate further’. ‘We believe that any issues between Pakistan and India can and should be resolved peacefully through meaningful mutual engagement,’ a statement read.
