Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 15 Apr. (LaPresse/AP) – Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said today that the first round of talks with the United States, held Saturday in Oman, went ‘well’. This was reported by Iranian state television. It is the supreme leader's first comment on the negotiations and, although cautiously worded, it constitutes an endorsement of the talks as they have gone so far. ‘We are neither radically optimistic nor radically pessimistic about the talks,’ said Khamenei, 85, adding that the talks have been “well implemented in the first steps” and that Iran remains “pessimistic” about America. Khamenei also urged officials “not to tie the country's affairs” to the talks. A second round is expected for Saturday.
