Brussels, April 14 (LaPresse) – Regarding the Middle East, "we need the ceasefire to be renewed. All hostages must be released, and life-saving aid must start reaching Gaza. For over a month, no aid, no supplies, no electricity, not even a crust of bread has entered Gaza. Access is completely blocked by Israel. Food is running out while warehouses outside Gaza are full of food rotting because it’s not being allowed in."
This was stated by the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, upon her arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
"Every day, at least 100 children are killed or injured, and more and more humanitarian workers—humanitarian heroes, we should call them—are losing their lives trying to save others. Humanitarian workers must always and everywhere be protected. And those targeting them must be held accountable. Many humanitarian missions are no longer being approved. There are no longer any international UNRWA personnel in Gaza or the West Bank. And the death toll could rise, could even skyrocket, if essential aid does not reach Gaza soon. So this is the situation in Gaza," she added.
The Commissioner then stressed that "in the West Bank, the situation is deteriorating: displacement and violence are becoming the norm. So we need decisive political action. Humanitarian aid and actors cannot resolve what is, once again, fundamentally a political crisis. Therefore, today we will also have the EU’s high-level political dialogue. It will be an important moment, an opportunity to discuss our cooperation and how we can work together to address the immense needs of the Palestinian people."
