Madrid (Spain), April 11 (LaPresse) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was received in Beijing by Chinese President Xi Jinping. "Spain is a deeply European country that sees China as a partner of the European Union," said the Spanish leader at the beginning of the meeting, as reported by El País, one of the media outlets accompanying Sanchez on his trip to China and Vietnam. "This year, Spain and China are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their global strategic partnership. With President Xi Jinping, I discussed the new momentum we are giving today to this partnership, with the aim of developing balanced and mutually beneficial relations and further bringing our societies closer together," the Spanish leader wrote on X after the meeting, which took place amid the commercial tensions triggered by the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. "Spain will always work to promote a strong and balanced relationship between China and the EU, also economic and commercial, based on dialogue, reciprocity, and harmony," Sanchez told Xi at the beginning of their meeting, emphasizing that Europe is a "project of peace and democracy, of progress and economic openness," and that "a strong Europe contributes to global stability and prosperity."
