Gaza, Red Crescent calls for international investigation into attack on ambulances

Turin, 7 Apr. (LaPresse) – The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has called for the establishment of an independent international commission of inquiry ‘to ascertain the facts and hold those responsible to account’ regarding the attack on ambulances by Israeli troops on 23 March in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of 15 humanitarian workers. ‘We are now used to the false accusations and the stories invented by Israel regarding what happens in the Gaza Strip’, declared the organisation's president, Younis al-Khatib, at a press conference as quoted by Al Jazeera. ’This includes the murder of 15 members of the Red Crescent. However, we believe that by now the whole world, including media representatives, has understood who is telling the truth.’ “It is no longer enough to talk about respect for international law and the Geneva Convention,” he said. “It is now necessary for the international community and the UN Security Council to implement the necessary punishments against all those responsible,” he added.
