Rome, 6 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘More than 50 countries have contacted the president to start negotiations’. This was stated in an interview with ABC News by the White House economic adviser, Kevin Hassett, who believes that these countries ‘are doing so because they understand that they will have to bear’ a large part of the burden of the tariffs. Hassett also said he was certain there would be ‘no great effect on the consumer in the United States’. Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers is of a different opinion, for whom ‘this is the greatest self-inflicted wound we have inflicted on our economy in history’.
