Jerusalem, 5 Apr (LaPresse/AP) – The Israeli Army (IDF) has announced that its soldiers from the 36th division have been deployed in Israel's newly established security corridor in southern Gaza, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to on Wednesday as the ‘Morag corridor’, using the name of an Israeli settlement that once stood between Rafah and Khan Younis. It is not clear how many soldiers are deployed, nor where exactly the corridor is located. Maps published by Israeli media show the new corridor running the full width of the Gaza Strip from east to west, between Rafah and Khan Younis. In announcing the corridor on Wednesday, Netanyahu had said that the establishment of the new security zone was aimed at putting pressure on Hamas and suggested that it would isolate the southern city of Rafah, which Israel has ordered to be evacuated, from the rest of Gaza.
