(LaPresse/AP) – The tariffs announced by the US are an ‘attack’ on a trading system that has brought global prosperity and that America itself helped to design, and ‘the entire global economy will suffer from these decisions that have not been thought through’. This was the comment of the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, commenting on the tariff plan announced last night by the US president Donald Trump. ‘The US administration is embarking on a path at the end of which there will only be losers’, added Scholz. And again: ‘This is an attack on a trading order that has created prosperity all over the world – a trading order that is also, to a very significant extent, the result of American efforts’.
