Strasbourg (France), 3 Apr. (LaPresse) – “We will not speculate on new measures” in response to US duties. ’We are analysing the impact of these measures. We are preparing a response. We don't yet fully know the nature of this response, it will depend on the analysis we conduct and, of course, also on the ongoing negotiation process, because that is where we want to make progress. We want to find a solution. We are not engaged in confrontation. We are engaged in negotiation.’ This was stated by a senior EU official commenting on the situation in response to the duties announced by Donald Trump. ‘I know there is a lot of debate out there, whether this means the instrument of retaliation? Whether this means this, that or the other? It could mean all of this, we won't be able to say today or maybe even tomorrow what the next response will be,’ he explains. ’I can only say that we have many possible responses and we are not taking anything off the table today. We are examining all the possible issues and, of course, we still have to analyse these numbers very carefully. It will be a very dynamic situation.’
