Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), March 26 (LaPresse) – A panel of judges from Brazil's Supreme Court has accepted charges against Jair Bolsonaro for an alleged attempt to stay in power after his defeat in the 2022 elections, thus indicting the former president. All five judges voted in favor of the request by Attorney General Paulo Gonet. Gonet accused Bolsonaro and 33 other people of attempting a coup, which included a plan to poison his successor and current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and to kill a Supreme Court judge. The former president has repeatedly denied committing any wrongdoing. The mere accusation of a coup, if proven, could lead to a sentence of up to 12 years.
