Sherman County (Kansas, USA), 16 Mar (LaPresse) – At least 26 people have been killed by a storm that has hit much of the United States. On Saturday afternoon, Missouri recorded more fatalities than any other state. Authorities say it was hit by scattered tornadoes overnight that left at least 12 people dead. Arkansas and Texas each recorded three fatalities due to the bad weather while eight people died in Kansas. Strong winds and drought also increased the risk of fires. In Oklahoma, nearly 300 homes were damaged or destroyed. The Storm Prediction Centre designated the day as ‘high risk’ of severe weather, especially in the Deep South. The bad weather affects an area inhabited by 100 million people.
