Belgrade (Serbia), March 15 (LaPresse/AP) – Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Belgrade for a mass demonstration, considered the culmination of months of protests against President Aleksandar Vucic and his government. A large crowd of protesters waving flags filled the center of the capital despite occasional rain. The demonstrators gathered after meeting at various agreed locations around the city, which was put on high alert. All public transportation was canceled. Before the demonstration, Vucic repeatedly warned of alleged plans for disorder, threatening arrests and severe penalties for any incidents. Some protesters carried banners reading “It’s over!” The crowd sang “Pump it Up,” a slogan adopted during the past four months of student protests. “I expect Vucic to realize that the people are no longer on his side,” said Milenko Kovacevic, one of the protesters.
