Rome, March 14 (LaPresse) – With U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, "we also discussed the new commercial situation, even though he is not the Minister of Foreign Trade. I said that we must avoid any trade war because trade wars benefit no one, and we are ready to engage in dialogue," stated Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani at the conclusion of the G7 Foreign Ministers' meeting in Canada.
"As Italians, we will do our part in Europe as well because the only solution is dialogue. There is no need for bombastic statements; we need to focus on working together. In my opinion, solutions can be found," he added.
"I believe the United States wants to engage in dialogue with Italy on matters within our competence. Then, there will be discussions with the European Commission, which has exclusive authority on the matter," Tajani explained, adding that "there are aspects concerning bilateral cooperation."
"We are ready to do whatever is necessary to resolve the issues," he continued. According to the Foreign Minister, "a standoff is of no use to anyone."
"Europe and the United States are two sides of the same coin, so I believe the best path forward is dialogue and discussion, which does not mean weakness or concession."
