Belgrade (Serbia), 4 March (LaPresse/AP) – At least three MPs were injured after chaos broke out today in the Serbian parliament, where smoke bombs were also thrown. The legislators were to vote on a law that would increase funding for university education, but the opposition parties insisted that the session was illegal and that the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and his government should be confirmed first. The incident reflects a deep political crisis in the Balkan country, where months of anti-corruption protests have shaken the government. Vucevic resigned in January, when the authorities had to face protests over the collapse of a concrete bus shelter in northern Serbia in November, which killed 15 people and which critics have attributed to rampant corruption. Parliament must confirm the prime minister's resignation for it to take effect.
