Milan, Feb. 28 (LaPresse) – Russia has asked "the American side to consider the possibility of restoring direct air traffic." This was announced by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to talks between Russia and the USA held yesterday in Istanbul.

"On February 27, Russian-American consultations took place in Istanbul at the expert level, between the director of the North Atlantic Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, A.N. Darchiev, and the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, S. Coulter, regarding the normalization of the functioning of diplomatic missions in both countries, following recent high-level bilateral contacts," the Russian ministry stated.

The statement added that, "in accordance with the instructions of the heads of foreign policy departments, ways to overcome the numerous 'irritants' inherited from previous U.S. administrations were discussed in detail."

During the meeting between the U.S. and Russian delegations in Istanbul, "joint measures were agreed upon to ensure the unhindered financing of the diplomatic missions of Russia and the United States on a reciprocal basis." The ministry further emphasized the need for "concrete results aimed at creating conditions for improving bilateral relations in the interest of the people of both countries," and specifically noted that "the American side has been asked to consider the possibility of restoring direct air traffic."
