Berlin (Germany), February 23 (LaPresse) – The winner of the German elections, CDU leader Friedrich Merz, expects to form a new government by Easter. "There is no alternative to the quick and sensible formation of a government," said Merz, announcing talks on how agreements between the CDU-CSU and the SPD could be reached during the government formation phase, to represent Germany internationally during this transition period. Outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz has accepted the proposal. Merz also wants to keep his promise to effectively impose an entry ban on undocumented migrants from day one of his chancellorship: "I made this promise, and I intend to keep it." The future chancellor is also convinced that necessary measures within the framework of the immigration control law can be agreed upon with the Social Democrats. However, Scholz reiterated: "The SPD will not violate European law."
